Rating system
In order to inspire and encourage gomokuplayers all over the world to make good results in important gomoku tournaments and in many cases distinguish players for qualification to international tournaments, an international system with international rankings between players from the whole world is introduced. Moreover the ranklist is a good indicator to check your progress.
To achieve an estimation of quality of a players momental playing strength a system with individual coefficients (rating) is used, an adapted variant of professor Árpád Élő's system.
The official international rating coefficients for all gomoku players are calculated once a new rated tournament with results are uploaded to gomokuworld.com.
The rating is based on results from individual live games between players in tournaments with direct play, and with a minimum time access of 20 minutes per player and game, using swap2 opening rule solely.
The ratinglist has 4 divisions:
1 - ACTIVE ESTABLISHED players (the official and actual world ratinglist)
2 - ACTIVE PROVISIONAL players
3 - INACTIVE ESTABLISHED players
4 - INACTIVE PROVISIONAL players
Active player is someone who took part in any rated gomoku tournament in the past 2 years, counting from the last rated tournament's date. Inactive player is someone whos last appearance in any rated gomoku tournament was 2 years ago or more, counting from the last rated tournament.
Established players have the right to be listed on official world ratinglist. Provisional players are new players who have not played enough rated games to be established yet.
Rating calculation methods
In case of established vs established
Rc=32*(W-(1/(1+2^(dR/120))))
Rc= rating change
W=result (win=1, draw=0,5, lose=0)
dR=rating difference
As a result we can calculate ELO table

In case of provisional vs provisional
If the player has 10 or more games versus established players and gained at least 3 points of it then such player has established rating. Other players have provisional rating.
Provisional rating is calculated by the following formula:
Rp=Ra+300*(W-L)/N
Ra=average rating of established opponents
W=number of wins
L=number of losses
N=number of games (only versus established)
Starting value of new player's rating is 1500.
Since everyone had provisional rating at the beginning it was not possible to start such ratinglist based on the above mentioned formulas. Therefore we picked a few tournaments where all players became automatically established. These tournaments were the first 4-6 national events in Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Russia and Estonia.
