GWC 1989
The 1st Gomoku World Championship was organized in Kyoto, Japan, 1989.08.02.-1989.08.04.
6 players took part on the event, 2 from each RIF founder country.
That time RIF had no proper gomoku opening rule, they used "pro" which is an unbalanced rule, starting player has decent advantage. Unsurprisingly only 10% of games were won by white player.
The eventual winner and 1st gomoku world champion was Sergey Chernov from Russia at the age of 27.
